Aztecs
In 1519 the Spaniards invaded Mexico, therefore invading the Aztec’s. During the invasion many Aztecs were killed and the few that survived were taken prisoner and used as slaves. Many Aztec’s after the invasion were forced to forget their customs and change their rerligion. They all also had to change their clothes that authorised their ranking because now they were just slaves. Only Aztec lords were treated with a little respect from the Spanish. Many of the lord's believed that the Spanish were sent by god and were too frightened to fight back as their weaponry was more advanced.
Colonisation
The colonisation of the new world began after Christopher Columbus returned from some of his voyages. In the 15th century Portugal and Spain started to travel around south America and look for land to conquer. They mainly wanted to find new food supplies and spread christianity around to other nations. In 1519 the spanish, leaded by Hernán Cortés.Tenochtitlán He studied the Aztec's for a while, learning that it wasn't a monolith but a net of alliances. Eventually, Cortes and his men took formal possession of Tenochtitlán which is one of the city-states in the Aztec world.
The spaniards cut off all their water and food supplies with the help of some Tenochitilan Vassals that wanted revenge. Food, stock piles and other supplies ran out quickly and a new threat emerged. An epedemic of small pox appeared, it spelled doom for the Aztec's. Finally the spaniards and the aztecs had a large fight in Tenochtitlan. Many defenders didn't want to become slaves and they fought to the dead. They wanted to protect their once powerful city state. Eventually, in August 1521 the Aztecs fell. All temples, homes and offices were destroyed as many of the remaining Aztec's fled.
Changes since colonisation
After the spaniards invaded the Aztec's main city-state they banned all cultural ways and religions of the Aztec's. Consumption of alcohol was allowed for the fist time. This led to wide spread alcoholism as many of the Aztec's had not tried alcohol before. Some of the Aztec's converted to Christianity willingly to be noble. Many culture's and languages were lost during to invasion but fortunately one survived. The old Mexican language Nahuatl survived and is now still used in many places in mexico. The conquest of the Aztec's also influenced the spanish. Lots of gold and silver was found and they found new types of food they could ship back to england and Spain.
Colonisation changed the Aztecs, not for the better. They were forced to become slaves and they were made to do many hard labour tasks. The Aztecs were not treatly fairly and were not given any respect. Only very powerful Aztec lords were given little or no respect. The Aztec religion was not allowed to be practised so human sacrifice was eradicated and the construction of temples were stopped.
