LAW
Aztec laws covered almost every aspect of life. This included laws about marriage, Inheriting, steeling, murder and property damage but that's only a few. There was a system of court and judges which determined if they were guilty and if they should be punished. A consequence of steeling was death and if you broke another laws the Judges would decide what kind of punishment you would get. Drunkenness what the worst crime to commit the punishment for being drunk was death. One part of the law was called the "one time forgiveness law". This law meant a citizen could confess to the crime to a priest and be forgiven. This law only worked if they confessed to the crime before they got caught and this could also only be used once
Government
As the Aztec empire grew and became strong, many people became a part of the Aztec system. Calipulli was one of the basic units of Aztec government. Families didn't own their own land the land was owned by a group of families, the Calipulli. The leadership in the Calipulli would be responsible for the basic needs of the group. Although the form of government was often referred to an Empire, Most areas within the empire were organized into city states known as Alteptl in Nahuatl. The Alteptl was a dominate form of organization.
